Every time your engine runs, the spark plug ignites the air–fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber, starting the controlled explosion that powers your car. Without it, fuel and air would just sit there — no combustion, no power, no movement.

Simple in appearance, critical in function.

🔥 How a Spark Plug Actually Works

A spark plug has two main parts:

  • A center electrode, insulated from the engine

  • A side (ground) electrode, connected to the engine body

Between them is a tiny gap.

When high voltage from the ignition system reaches the spark plug, electricity jumps across this gap as a spark. That spark ignites the compressed air–fuel mixture inside the cylinder.

This happens:

  • At exactly the right moment

  • Thousands of times per minute

  • In perfect sync with piston movement

Timing and consistency are everything here. A weak or mistimed spark means lost power, poor fuel economy, and higher emissions.
